Despite the recent recession, the national volunteer rate raised to 26.8 percent in the past year. According to Volunteering in America, 29.4 percent of Baltimore residents volunteer ranking the city 16th within the 51 large cities. On average, Baltimore residents contributed 48.3 service hours per resident ranking the city 3rd within the 51 large cities.
But what exactly drives the residents of Baltimore to continue dedicating their time to help those in need? Since 2006 the amount of volunteers in Charm City has increased by 3.7 percent and show no signs of dropping any time soon.
